Three drills to help work on efficient hand actions as infielders: 1. Hand dribbles - Focus on keeping the wrist and elbow bent - Receive the ball as soon as it hits the ground - Work to get the ball back into the throwing hand as quick as possible - Maintain good fielding posture through the entire dribble progression - Don’t work side to side. Instead work forward and backwards. 2. Hand funnels - Funnel both hands towards the midline (Midline could be anywhere from the belly button to the chest) - Let the elbows go out as you funnel - Don’t let your chest come up as you funnel - Keep the hands out in front - It’s easy to start fielding the ball deeper and deeper as you do more reps. Do not field between your feet. 3. Funnel with a 2 step footwork progression - Get the ball to the midline then swing the hips around to a good throwing position - Maintain good posture by keeping the chest down the entire time. - Gain ground when you shuffle. Do not just swivel your hips - Work to get your throwing hand tight to your ear and then keep your front side down and relaxed.
